The Commercialising Quantum Technologies challenge at UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) focuses on developing new products and technologies using advances in quantum science. Working alongside the UK National Quantum Technologies Programme we support companies seeking to move their products from laboratory to industry. Since 2018 we’ve committed over £70 million into business led research and development of quantum technologies in the UK and will invest a further £60 million in 2021.
Over 40 projects and 87 companies have already benefitted, securing over £340 million in private investment and driving innovation across sectors including:
• automotive
• cybersecurity
• defence
• finance
• healthcare
• infrastructure
and • telecommunications
UKRI is the largest public funder of research and innovation in the UK, with a budget of over £8 billion. Composed of seven disciplinary research councils, Innovate UK and Research England it operates across the whole country and works with partners in higher education, research organisations, businesses, government, and charities.
