Zoran Krunic

Senior Manager, Data Science Amgen

Zoran Krunic joined Amgen R&D in 2018 and since then have worked on applications of Machine Learning to modeling different patient outcomes and clinical trial enrollment based on Electronic Health Records and clinical trial data sets. Since 2019 he led the Quantum Machine Learning initiative in cooperation with the IBM Quantum research team, evaluating machine learning models in the quantum domain on IBM’s Qiskit platform and comparing them to classical machine learning models. Prior to Amgen he spent number of years at Optum, where he worked on creating Machine Learning applications to predict hardware and software failures in enterprise architecture. Prior to that he worked in data engineering, data warehousing and real-time systems development as a consultant for number of large companies – Capital Group, ARCO Petroleum, Southern California Gas company and PacifiCare. Zoran holds Master of Science in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science.

Main Conference Day One

2:20 PM PHARMA CIO’s Leaders Debate

Quantum computing has the potential to revolutionize the pharmaceutical and life sciences industries by solving complex problems that are currently beyond the reach of classical computers. This panel will explore how quantum technology is being applied to accelerate drug discovery, optimize molecular modeling, and enhance personalized medicine, among other innovations.

Key topics include:

  • How is quantum computing being utilized in drug discovery, and what breakthroughs can it enable in the search for new therapies and treatments?
  • In what ways can quantum computing enhance molecular modeling and simulations, allowing for more accurate predictions of drug interactions and protein folding?
  • What role could quantum algorithms play in advancing genomics and personalized medicine, enabling more precise and efficient healthcare solutions?
  • What are the current limitations of quantum computing in pharma and life sciences, and how can companies and researchers prepare for the future integration of this technology?
  • How are pharmaceutical companies, research institutions, and quantum technology providers collaborating to advance quantum applications in life sciences?

This panel will provide a deep dive into the opportunities and challenges that quantum computing presents for the pharma and life sciences sectors, highlighting its potential to drive the next wave of innovation in healthcare and medicine.
