Chia-Hao Liu finished his Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Columbia University, following a B.S. in Physics from National Taiwan Normal University. His thesis is on the development of analysis techniques for solving the nanostructure inverse problems based on their Pair Distribution Functions. He won the Margaret C. Etter Student Lecturer Award from the American Crystallographic Association in 2019, among 12 other recipients worldwide for recognizing his work in applying Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) to predict the 3D symmetry of nanostructure directly from its 1D reduced representation collected from experiments. He is also active in contributing to open source software for scientific applications. He was the lead developer for the data acquisition software package deployed at X-ray Powder Diffraction Beamline of National Synchrotron Light Source-II, Brookhaven National Laboratory.
