Hakim is the Research Lead for Emergent Money Systems at the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance (CCAF). His work focuses on the implications of digital assets to existing payment and monetary arrangements, which in turn could impact financial stability and monetary stability.
Prior to joining CCAF, Hakim worked at Bank Negara Malaysia. He spent eight years at the central bank, specialising in dealing with emerging issues including in payments, remittances, fintech, sustainability and digital assets. Recently, he co-founded the Digital Currency Research Hub at the central bank, leading the landscape review, developing the surveillance framework and assessing the impact of digital assets to financial stability and monetary stability.
He is also an expert in the ASEAN financial regulation process, a Professional Fellow for the ASEAN-US Young Southeast Asian Leaders’ Initiative (YSEALI) and a Certified Climate Risk Professional from the Chartered Banker Institute.
